Mindy travels for work, which means she belongs to varius hotel chain loyalty tiers and earns the most hotel loyalty points. When we begin to plan our trips Mindy starts putting all of her hotel points in order so that we can get the best hotel experience for our money.
The Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort in Port Douglas was one of Mindy’s best finds. The rooms were bright, clean, open concept and looked even bigger than they were because there were full length mirrors at either end of the room. Because Mindy belonged to a high tier in their loyalty program we were upgraded to swim out rooms, there was a small deck outside the door where you could open a glass door and hop into the pool.
The grounds were planted with tropical flowers and there were water features everywhere, inside and outside the main building. The pools meandered all around the grounds and there were streams and a large waterfall that was lit at night with color changing lights. There were waterfalls on either side of the main staircase and even a piano on a platform surrounded by water.
We chose Port Douglas because of its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforest, but the hotel was a nice place to stay for itself alone. We walked along Four Mile Beach to get to the town to get lunch and shop for souvenirs. It was fun to watch the little crabs scurry along the beach and dig holes in the sand. I enjoyed this hotel and wished we had more time to spend here.
